If you see a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error, go to the directory you install Magento with (usually "public_html") and look for the maintenance.flag file.
If the maintenance.flag file exist, remove it and the issue should be resolved.
You may need to clear your Magento cache and/or browser cache at times for it to take effect.
The maintenance.flag file is inserted by Magento to put your store into maintenance mode during operations like installation or updates in Magento Connect Manager, Magento built-in backups, etc.
